24 Hour Holter Monitoring

Holter Monitoring is a non-invasive test that involves wearing a small monitor with attached electrodes to record your heart rate and rhythm over a 24 hour period. Five electrodes will be positioned on your chest and connected to a monitor, which you will then carry with you over a 24 hour period, where you should just do your normal activities. The procedure will take approximately 15-20 minutes to have the monitor fitted and you will need to return the next day to have the monitor and electrodes removed. The recordings will then be interpreted and your doctor will discuss the results with you.

Patient prep:

You will need to shower before you come as you will not be able to shower with the monitor on. Do not use lotions or powder on your chest area as they may interfere with the ECG signal. You should wear a 2 piece outfit with a loose fitting shirt or top to accommodate the electrodes and monitor. You will then need to return the following day to have the monitor removed.
